The San Diego Chargers and P Mike Scifres have agreed to a five-year, $18 million extension with $9 million guaranteed, thesidelineview.com has confirmed.
Scifres, who was selected in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Chargers, is now signed through 2016. His contract was previously set to expire after the 2011 season.
Scifres,30, has long been known as one of the best punters in the NFL, so the team rewarded him with the largest guaranteed money for a player at his position.
Scifres, out of Western Illinois University, played through a double hernia during the 2009 season, and managed to make it through each game.
