Baltimore Ravens starting C Matt Birk has been fined $5,000 for not wearing a microphone for a recent game, Birk’s agent, Joe Linta, told thesidelineview.com. Birk was notified by the NFL of the fine on Monday. Linta said Birk couldn’t get the microphone to work in a satisfactory manner. The veteran offensive lineman will appeal the fine, according to Linta.
Birk, 35, is on the final year of his three-year contract and is listed with a $3 million base salary for this season.
As part of the new CBA, each team will have a microphone placed in the pads of one or two interior offensive linemen (starting and backup center of both starting guards).
The decision to capture sound from offensive linemen is supposed to enhance the sound of the game.
