49ers Cut Tight End

August 24, 2011

The San Francisco 49ers have waived backup TE Colin Cloherty, the team announced. The move was actually made on Tuesday, a source confirmed. The transaction was turned into the NFL's personnel office by the daily transaction deadline, so Cloherty could be claimed off waivers by another team on Wednesday.

Cloherty was signed to the 49ers practice squad on October 6, 2010, and was promoted to the active roster on December 18. He appeared in two games with the 49ers and registered two special teams tackles.

Even with Cloherty gone, the 49ers still have five tight ends on their current 90-man roster.
